In the 1970s and early 80s, a series of articles was written for the San Jose Mercury News by journalist and local historian Pat Loomis. The articles gave special insights into our street names and their relationship to early Santa Clara County pioneers. Many of the stories in the series were later made into two books, titled Signposts and Signposts II, for the San Jose Historical Museum Association (now out of print). In 2007, the Argonauts Historical Society felt that it was important to make these accounts available to Santa Clara County residents once again. They wanted to combine both of Loomis’ books with previously unpublished articles into one volume entitled Signposts Revisited. In 2008, the Argonauts Historical Society partnered with the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County, History San Jose and the Preservation Action Council of San Jose to publish this new collection.
