Description

History San Jose is pleased to offer this limited edition replica of the Sakauye Farmhouse. Enjoy it on your holiday tree, or as a decoration around your house.

The Sakauye Farmhouse, originally located at the crossroads of Seely Avenue and Montague Expressway, stands as a testament to the resilience, ingenuity, and contributions of Japanese American farmers in the South Bay region. Retained by Eiichi Sakauye throughout Japanese incarceration in World War II and built on the land purchased by his father Yuwakichi before the Alien Land Law of 1913, the farmhouse represents not only a family’s agricultural legacy, but also pivotal eras in local history. The property was slated for housing development on February 1, 2025, which prompted community partners History San José, the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, the Preservation Action Council of San Jose, and San Jose City Councilmember Rosemary Kamei to rally together to relocate and preserve the farmhouse. In March 2026, the home was successfully moved to History Park. Preservation partners are now fundraising to rehabilitate the Farmhouse for use as a gallery and educational space. A portion of the proceeds from this purchase will go to the restoration of the Sakauye Farmhouse.
