
Built in 1889 by Swedish native Perry Paulson, this Queen Anne-style residence was moved to History Park in 1986 from its original location on Prevost Street near Auzerais and San Carlosto make room for the Children’s Discovery Museum. The rooms have been furnished with local pioneer artifacts by the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County.
Perry Paulson died in July, 1932. The San Jose Mercury’s obituary read, “Perry Paulson, 80-year old building contractor, who had been in failing health for several years, died yesterday morning at the family residence, 343 Prevost Street. Paulson was a charter member of the Swedish Emanuel Lutheran Church and constructed the church building at Market and Auzerais many years ago. He was a native of Sweden, coming to this country when a young man. He has made his home in San Jose for more than 45 years. Besides his widow, Mrs. May Paulson, he leaves three children, Edla, Mildred and Rudolph Paulson, and Mrs Roy Nelson of San Jose a sister, Anna Paulson in Sweden, and three grandchildren, Beverley, Lorene and Donald Nelson. Perry was a member of the carpenters union No. 316.”
The Paulson House is home to the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County.
