Family Gold Rush Adventure Day

GoldRushSummer is a good time to have an adventure, and History Park will provide the backdrop.  Gold Rush Adventure Day will allow families to be a ‘49er for a day — as in the original gold rushers of 1849 — Sunday, July 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Around the Plaza of History Park:

  • Panning for gold will be near the Chinese American Museum at the Ng Shing Gung
  • Music by the New California Minstrels – Music, songs, dance from the Gold Rush Era. People can learn some of the dances the miners used to entertain themselves
  • Learn about the people who came for gold and stayed to populate the state of California — African Americans, Hispanics, Japanese, Chinese, and women who became sole traders
  • Games will include a Pony Express Relay
  • Hoop races on the Green
  • Candle-making
  • Jumping Frog of Calaveras County craft
  • Chinese Lantern craft
  • Play games from the Gold Rush

Near the Trolley Barn:

  • Stage Coach Story-telling stories
  • Ride the Trolley
  • Try your hand at pumping the hand car

In the Fruit Barn:

Watch the celebrated movie Gold Rush narrated by John Lithgow

Inside the Pacific Hotel:

Enjoy Award-winning Treat Ice Cream, always served inside O’Brien’s Candy Store & Cafe
